Overview
A kind, down-to-earth family based in Los Angeles (with additional properties in the US and Hawaii) is seeking a governess/educator to assist with cultivating their two home-schooled children, aged 9 and 14, as they embark on a worldwide adventure. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, as the family intends to be nomadic for a period of at least 12 months from February 2025, traveling all over the world, from the East Coast to the Bahamas, all over Europe, and various other destinations. Candidates should be comfortable onboard a yacht for months at a time, although this will of course dock at numerous locations, and the family will do a great deal of land-based exploration as well - especially in Europe. The itinerary is going to be quite fluid, so candidates should be flexible and excited by the prospect of living a more impromptu existence - i.e. if the thought of not having a fixed itinerary makes you anxious, this is not the job for you.
Candidates will have plenty of time throughout the year to return home and see family, and they will not be required to work weekends, so they may use this time to explore on their own terms.
Mom and Dad are both self-employed and have therefore been able to invest a considerable amount of time in fostering their children’s education. As such, they are very attuned to their children’s strengths and weaknesses.
This is a very positive, nurturing family, and they are looking for someone who is light-hearted, open-minded, and a proponent of cohesion and harmony. Candidates must be emotionally centered, with a high EQ. You will be spending a vast amount of time with the family, sometimes in a confined space (such as on their yacht), so candidates should have solid professional boundaries and be able to navigate conflict resolution with grace, humility, and professionalism.
Candidates with a UK/ European passport are welcome to apply because the family will only be spending the next 3 months in the US, and the rest of the time they will be traveling, and much of this time will be spent in Europe.
Responsibilities
- Both children follow a homeschool curriculum and have done so for many years (even before Covid). Candidates should be able to nurture the children’s learning, who are very intelligent, advanced (especially in language and math) and self-motivated.
- The parents have instilled a sense of respect for others/things, humility and humanity in the children, and would like candidates to nurture this.
- There isn’t a need for the candidate to design a curriculum per se, but rather assist the children in areas in which they need help and guidance, leveraging what they have already achieved and pressing forward i.e. ensuring they do not regress in any way
- Prepare both children for the world, and their own respective academic challenges e.g. the eldest needs to prepare for college.
- Engage the children in teachable moments, and facilitate cultural immersion as they spend time in different countries and cultural environments
- Teach extra-curricular, specialist skills e.g. playing a musical instrument/ speaking a new language/ playing a particular sport.
Qualifications
- Candidates should be flexible, kind, full of heart, considerate, and intelligent, with a good sense of humor.
- A second language (French, Spanish, Italian, or other) is a huge plus
- Candidates should have experience working in a similar role i.e. in the context of a Governess/ Educator
- A formal teaching background is not required but is a huge plus
Requirements
- US/UK/EU passport/ Green Card/ EAC
- Since the family will spend such a significant amount of time outside the US (and much of this time will be spent in Europe), applicants in the UK/ EU are also eligible to apply for this role if they have a valid passport
- Candidates must be excited to travel around the world without a definitive itinerary, as well as feel inspired by spending time in different countries/ cultures
- Candidates should be discreet, with a modest social media presence (this family is not on social media)
- Available to start ASAP

- Highly competitive compensation DOE + healthcare + full benefits
