Overview
A wonderful family on the Upper East Side of NYC is seeking a caring, educated, and reliable full-time, live-out family assistant for their two children, aged 8 and 11. The typical schedule will be Monday through Friday, from 12pm - 8pm, with some flexibility required for school drop-offs, school holidays, illness, etc. The children will be attending Summer camp in July and August, so the nanny will not be required to work during these months. The family is looking for someone who can begin training alongside their current nanny in May or June before the current nanny transitions out.
Responsibilities
Nanny/Educator:
- Develop meaningful and long-lasting relationships with the children, engaging and interacting with them respectfully
- Use respectful parenting techniques to discipline
- Handle school drop-off (as needed, beginning at 7:30 am) and pick-up
- Assist with children’s laundry and maintain their rooms
- Schedule and manage after-school activities
- Register/sign up for classes and handle any related communication or issues (fielding emails, etc.)
- Prepare nutritious meals and snacks, encouraging children to try new foods and practice healthy habits
- Ensure time for free/independent play as well as family play
- Plan and organize educational activities for both children: encouraging reading, back-to-school prep after summer, and reinforcing tutor content throughout the week
- Stay up to date with homework and assist with completion, ensuring each child’s needs are met
- Maintain and manage the children’s schedules
- Focus on building self-esteem and use gentle parenting techniques for communication and discipline
- Handle any social issues impacting self-esteem, confidence, and conflict resolution; role-play solutions, problem-solving, and communication strategies
- Keep parents updated throughout the day regarding children's well-being and activities
- Coordinate and communicate with specialists/tutors as needed
- Purchase uniforms, shoes, and equipment as needed
- Book and take children to doctor and dentist appointments
- Label all children’s clothing for school and camp
- Research and implement appropriate techniques for supporting a child with ADHD
Household Management/Family Assistant:
- Plan and organize the family calendar
- Let in and supervise contractors/maintenance as needed
- Interview and hire babysitters as required
- Arrange and manage schedules for the housekeeper/maintenance personnel
- Handle grocery shopping (online ordering and trips to the store as needed)
- Stock the pantry and fridge, organizing and maintaining household supplies
- Coordinate and communicate with the housekeeper regarding schedule changes and stock replenishment
- Run errands such as picking up birthday gifts, dry cleaning, extra groceries, and returns as needed
- Clean up between housekeeper visits, including washing dishes, taking out the trash, keeping the kitchen clean, and making beds
- Organize various areas of the home
- Keep track of what is needed for school and camp, making orders as necessary
- Pack for trips and ensure everything is organized and prepared
- Organize camp logistics—purchasing equipment, labeling items, packing, and ensuring everything is in order
- Sort through closets seasonally and as the children grow
- Order school uniforms and manage quantities of items
- Assist with planning birthday parties, seasonal holiday events, and help with decorating as needed
- Purchase gifts for parties and special occasions
Qualifications
- Must be educated and highly organized
- Must be proactive with the ability to take direction well
- Must be professional, polished, and communicative
- Driving skills are a plus
- Swimming skills are a plus
Requirements
- Legally authorized to work in the US
- Clean driver’s license (if applicable)
- Non-smoker
- CPR and First Aid Certified
- Excellent references from current and previous employers
- Up to date on vaccines (COVID, Tdap, Flu)
Salary and Benefits
- Competitive salary of $100k+, based on experience
