Overview
A kind family on the UWS is seeking a chef for their family. The family is compromised of 2 parents and 2 school-aged children; however, the chef will also cook for 1 nanny at a time so meals for 3 adults and 2 children will be required for this role. They are seeking 8 meals per week typically; breakfast and dinner 4 days per week. Breakfast is served at 7:20am and dinner is served at 7pm. Therefore, the chef will have hours during the day off for the most part. They do want weekend availability; this will not be every weekend, but it is sometimes needed so the candidate to hire must be available on occasion for weekends. They desire a candidate who will be committed to the family.
Responsibilities
- Prepare breakfast; for example, eggs/turkey sausage/pancakes, smoothie, oatmeal, etc. Father has a smoothie in the mornings, Mother has oatmeal or eggs as an example, and the children have eggs and turkey sausage or pancakes as an example. Breakfast is served at 7:20am and chef will clean up afterwards and be generally done by 8:45am.
- Prepare dinner; the chef and family will work out the menu but dinners will be more varied and robust than breakfasts. Dinner is served at 7pm.
- Grocery shopping for the family
- Meal/recipe planning
- The family has a great kitchen with three ovens, Traeger grill, and they are happy to provide further whatever the chef thinks is reasonably necessary for the family's meals
- The family doesn't eat pork (but this isn't a Kosher home, they just don't eat pork) and 1 of the children is allergic to kiwi
Requirements
- Good with children; expanding their eating horizons and able to combine healthy ingredients into the meals without the children necessarily detecting it
- Organized and able to communicate well
- The chef should have the ability to work larger gatherings, as sometimes the family hosts events or holidays at their apartment. For much larger parties, they'd be expected have a network to bring in such as a sous chef and people to help with prep. They have a few people they've met over the years that can help for the larger parties if the chef wants to bring on board those established contacts as well.
- There is no travel expectation (they don't leave in the summer for the Hamptons or Jersey Shore, for example), and if any would be requested in the future, the family discuss in advance with the chef
Salary and Benefits
- Salary $110k-125k depending on experience and qualifications
- The candidate to hire will have a set amount of paid time off, but the family does travel a lot so the candidate to hire should be aware they'll have a lot of days off in addition to whatever PTO is provided
- Health insurance just for the employee; if the employee has any dependents or spouse they want on the plan then the employee will have to contribute to that
