Overview
A family on the UWS is seeking a nanny/tutor/family assistant for their 8-year-old and 13-year-old, but the main care focus is on the youngest and tutoring her with her homework as the eldest is more self-sufficient. The projected schedule is 12pm-7pm Monday through Friday; the children are in school until 3pm or 4:30pm those days, so the earlier hours of the day will be spent doing family assistant work (I.E., tidying, running errands, light housekeeping, etc.). If the candidate to hire doesn't want to take on the family assistant duties earlier in the day, then they can just be the nanny/tutor and help out in the afternoons after school until parents are home at 7pm. However, the children do have many days off of school as well and the candidate to hire will need to start earlier on those days (I.E., 8/8:30am-6pm). Flexibility is key for this role. The role starts as soon as a great fit is found.
Responsibilities
- Picking up the youngest after school at 3pm and taking both children to after school activities OR picking up the youngest at 4:30pm when she has after school activities at the schoolsite and then bringing her home; the eldest takes the bus home.
- Remedial tutoring the youngest for 1 hour/day with her homework–rote memorization learning is beneficial (a learning technique that involves repeating information until it can be recalled verbatim)
- Meal prep for the children (they try to eat healthy; mainly pescatarian so they eat fish and other seafood but not as much red meat and poultry). The youngest does have a mild tree nut allergy. The family can purchase pre-cut things, I.E., vegetables, to make it easier.
- Scheduling the activities for the children
- Helping the eldest stay organized and on track
- The family assistant duties during the day (before picking up the children from school) will include getting groceries, picking up dry cleaning, laundry for the children and bonus if for parents as well, organizing cabinets, overall tidying, etc.
- In the summers the eldest does sleepaway camps or time with grandparent but the younges does not do sleepaway camps so the summer schedule will be the hours of 8/9am-3/4pm with care primarily focused on the youngest
- There is no traveling for this role nor overnights
